Proof that Fools Aren't buying what Reasonable MSM is selling on ESCR
"'C-L' wrong in supporting embryonic stem-cell research" reads the heading of this opinion writer for The Clarion-Ledger Linda T. Berry kicks a** and takes names in this no-holds-barred smack-down of the Clarion Ledger's Reasonable endorsement of ESCR. Murder sells, but Ms. Berry ain't buying! Behold:
In view of your paper's strong and continued advocacy of embryonic stem-cell research and your confident assertion that "a majority of the American public supports" it ("Stem cells: Sen. Frist seeing health benefits," Aug. 1), I am writing again to inform you that you are mistaken.Good for her! She sees what supposedly educated Editors and Journalists fail to understand: utilitarianism run amok destroys human rights. The day that American society decides that some are expendable for the needs of others is the day Americans burn the Declaration of Independence. Unfortunately, we've been on that way since at least 1973. Now, the same Reasonable people that convinced half the country that abortion-on-demand was a good idea want to promote ESCR as another Great Idea.
This practice is entirely abhorrent on legal, moral and religious grounds, and your supposed poll of "a majority" is patently incorrect. The consequences of allowing a prominent paper's advocacy of this practice to go unchallenged reach far beyond the destruction of small embryonic humans in the interest of medical progress for others.
Please examine the implications of what you are urging us to accept, and reconsider.
The policy of creating and then destroying human life at the will of science, for the benefit of those who supposedly have greater right to existence and health is truly alarming for a free society, as it reduces the value of human persons within it — at any stage of life — to that of a cash crop for harvest.
All we fools have to do is become more Reasonable and stop saying that embryos are human beings. Even though they are. Ms. Berry begs to differ. I'm certain she's not alone. Keep up the Foolishness, Ms. Berry! The rest of the Fools are with you!
