Pro Ecclesia * Pro Familia * Pro Civitate is "Dumping Dubya"

Jay Anderson returned from a inspiring pilgrimage to England, and he collided with the Great SCOTUS Mess!

He's had all he can stands, and he can'ts stands no more:
I'm with Steve Dillard (all except for the reservation of judgment part, which he included in his update) - I am hereby done with George W. (just like his daddy) Bush. I voted for Bush to get judges like Scalia and Thomas - which is what he promised in both the 2000 and 2004 elections. Instead, we've been handed 2 blank-slate nominees, which, given the Bushies' track record on blank-slate nominees, gives me no hope for anything other than another couple of David Souters.

Can anyone say with any confidence that the 2 Bush nominees will shift the Court significantly rightward? I doubt seriously that Roberts is as conservative as the Chief Justice he has replaced. And I have no idea whether this Miers person is as conservative as Sandra Day O'Connor, who was at least conservative on federalism and separation-of-powers issues. What I do know is that neither nominee is the Scalia or Thomas that we were promised.
The President's nomination of Ms. Miers has cost him Mr. Anderson's support:
Read my lips, Dubya Bush: you just lost one of your strongest supporters.
Mr. Anderson also referenced my reflections on this mess. Thanks, Jay. Welcome, Pro Ecclesia readers! Make yourselves at home!

I'm sure that the President will hear from more like Jay Anderson in the coming weeks. Should this trend continue, Republicans will face a bleak November 2006. Should that happen, the President may see his agenda come to a crashing halt. He's had enough trouble moving it forward with his party in command of both houses of Congress. Should the Democrats take back the Senate, the Administration will have a long two years. President Bush's successor may not have the President's coattails to ride out of the Republican convention. What a mess!

Meanwhile, the Dictatorship of Relativism marches on.
