A Penitent Blogger muses about The lumberyard of the eyes

"Thank you, Lord, for teaching me Humility

<blockquote>Sometimes it is not just a matter of other people’s perceptions: sometimes we truly can be arrogant in our denunciations of other people’s sins and smug (foolishly!) about our own virtue, forgetting that we ourselves are miserable sinners totally dependent on the grace and the mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It's easy to forget this when blogging up a storm. It's easy for me to tear down the Reasonableness of others and miss that tendency in myself. Would that I truly lived life as a Holy Fool! Alas, only Christ delivered such mastery in full. Still, by his Grace and with his help through prayer, the Sacraments and Service, I may become what he calls me to be: A Holy Fool indeed!

The Penitent Blogger reminds us that "zeal for His house" can consume us and leave only the charred remains of a once grateful Christian. We can even burn with pride over our holiness! Only briefly, however, for as soon as we touch it with pride such holiness wilts like a rose on Christmas morning. The bottom line is if we're not ground in Christ's death and Ressurection, then we don't have the love in our hearts to preach the Gospel. Better we keep our mouths shut then let our tongue high-tail us to embarrassment. Or Worse!

That's why Christians are never alone. Alone, we can't be part of the Body of Christ. Alone we can't image him, for he is trinity, a communion of love. We need each other, as any who enjoy life in a family need each other. The isolated Christian is a paralyzed Christian, a corpse on the road. Sometimes, we even need each other to set us straight. So I tip my hat to the PB, and echo the words from Friar tuck of the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves:

Thank you, Lord, for teaching me Humility!
