Religiosity or Holiness?

Dr. D'Ambrosio asks the questionat Catholic Exchange

I leave you tonight with his vital insights. I have found his counsel profound. He has a way of presenting the Catholic paradigm with such clarity and warmth. He reminds me of what being a Fool is all about:

But true holiness is not preoccupied with comfort and safety. Love is about giving itself away, regardless of the cost and discomfort involved. Mercy is love’s effort to relieve suffering, and true love cannot long rest while there is suffering to relieve. Hunger, thirst, and nakedness are all examples of suffering that love must relieve. But so is sin and spiritual ignorance. Loves sees the abortionist, the prostitute, the drug dealer, and terrorist not as disgusting eyesores to be eliminated from our pleasant human landscape, but as human beings who are wounding others because they themselves are wounded, desperately in search of the Divine Physician though they don’t know what He looks like or where He is to be found.

Too often I myself am too reasonable. I can be quick to offer the reasonable my satirical smackdowns. As a manifestation of the zeitgest that challenges the Fool in this age, such satire levels the playing field. When considering people on a personal level, or one-to-one, it tears down others' hearts needlessly.

That's why I'm glad this good doctor is around. He can help keep all of us fools honest!

Enjoy!
