I often forget. How many of us do? How many of us ever knew about the Vendee? It foreshadowed the genocidal 20th century. It reminds us that a worldview devoid of God and dependent only on "reason" and "humanity", when coupled with the most advanced technology of the age, will produce horrors that are neither reasonable nor humane.

Only God allows us to be human. Only Love civilizes us. If we turn from him and embrace the darkness, we can't expect to produce the fruits of the light.
