The Spirit of Vatican II Begs to Differ
Fr. O'Leary paid me a visit here. I responded to him here.
I would almost feel sorry for the good father. Apparently, he's made a few visist to the NeoCath's that he's recently pontificated against--and that responded to his lunacy with some Foolish clear-thinking. He doesn't appear to be getting the hearing that he expected. We seem to remain foolish JPG Catholics. Or, to borrow his term of endearment/my new badge of honor, a NeoCath.
I say almost because of the shame of what he does. He has vowed to participate in the ordained priesthood of Jesus Christ. As such, he has an obligation to faithfully instruct the Faithful on the Faith. Not on his intellectually asphyxiated interpretations of the Faith. Not his avant-garde theological imaginations of the Faith. Simply, the Faith. He fails to do so. Thus, the catechetically uninformed could follow the good Father over the cliff.
Our relationship with Christ is what ensures our salvation. Our unity with him in his mystical body depends on our placing our trust in him--that vital Faith from which a life lived in union with him is born. How can we place our trust in him if we truly don't know who he is? How can we know who he is if we're not taught who he is by those entrusted with that Teaching? Well, Fr. O'Leary has been entrusted with that teaching--and he has abandoned it in favor of theological triumphalism. Rather than believe in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church that recognizes the right of the Pope and Bishops in communion with him to have the final authority on interpretation of scripture and Tradition, Fr. O'Leary joins the ranks of theologians that demand the Magisterium validate their dubious theses on the basis of their "knowledge" and methodology alone. As if a relatioship with Christ were strictly a matter of mastering one theory.
How many people has the good father already misled away from Christ and his Church? How many more will he?
None. If this Fool can help it. And I'm not alone!
