Mark Mossa SJ offers advice on dryness in prayer

here

I find this experience the most challenging myself. It's easiest for me to surrender to the temptation that no one is there when I face the desert. Honestly, the only "success" I've had is variety and perseverence. By variety, I mean I will vary the ways in which I pray: Devotional Divine Mercy prayer ("Jesus, I trust in You), Lectio Divina, Centering Prayer, or Liturgy of the Hours. By perseverence, I mean consistently praying, even when God seems completely absent. I mean echoing the first Cursillistas, who themselves echoed pilgrims to holy sites in Spain, by crying out, "Ultreya!"--Onward!
