Reach on The 10 / 40 Window

Interesting statistics. If they're right. I can't verify them right now. Tony from Reach finds them credible, though. Money quote:

Center of population: Two-thirds of the world's population -- more than 3.2 billion people -- live in the 10/40 Window.
Unreached and unevangelized: 95% of the people living in the 10/40 Window are unevangelized. Many have never heard the Gospel message even once.
Good news: There's a difference between unreached and unreachable. In 1989 there were only four known Christians living in Mongolia. That country now has an estimated 10,000 indigenous believers. Also, Christian television programming can now be received in many closed 10/40 Window nations.

Northern Africa may now sit in the 10 / 40. 'Twas not always thus. Before the muslim conquest in the years after Mohammad's death, Northern Africa was home to many Christians. Nowadays, sadly, the few remaining Coptic Christian Churches remain under siege. More and more leave the region for more hospitable areas. I can only guess how many Christians are among the victims of genocide in Darfur, for Sudan sits in the 10 / 40.

Meanwhile, Christianity--evangelical protestant and Roman Catholic, specifically--grows in leaps and bounds in sub-Saharan Africa. Latin America still hosts a majority of the world's 1.3 billion Catholics. Evangelical protestants also grow in the former Spanish and Portugese colonies.

We must be tireless missionaries. Disciples must follow the discipline of the Master. Our Master said to go and make disciples of all nations. The principle ungospeled lands on earth may coincide with the cultures most inhospitable to Christians. It does not matter. Once the entire world save 12 men and one man-God had not heard the Gospel preached. Now, Christians stand as the majority religion on the face of the earth. Our mission continues. Christ calls us forth. Will we listen? Will we follow?
